General Entry Requirements

You are normally expected to have successfully completed an honours degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject and have appropriate work experience. You may be required to attend an interview and/or provide a portfolio of work.

Additional Criteria

  • Applicants who do not possess an honours degree but have substantial managerial experience and an HE Level 7 qualification of at least 100 credits in a relevant subject. These may include Post-graduate Diploma, Ofqual/SQA regulated Level 7 Extended Diploma. All application forms need to be accompanied by a reflective overview of the managerial responsibilities undertaken to date.

  • A letter of reference on headed paper from the current/most recent employer should also be provided clearly showing length of employment and a breakdown of roles and responsibilities.

Aims of the Programme

The principal aims of the programme are to:

  • The overall aim of the programme is to prepare students for a career at senior management level. prepare students for progression into a career at senior management level. Students will develop knowledge and skills in strategic thinking or effective leadership appropriate to the contemporary global economy.
  • Specifically the programme seeks to develop and enhance:
  • critical knowledge of organisations, their management and the changing external contexts in which they operate
  • knowledge/understanding of complex business issues, both systematically and creatively, to improve business and management practice
  • intellectual capabilities of research, critique, synthesis and innovation, culminating in a masters’ level dissertation
  • academic and professional skills to allow for opportunities for career development and further study
  • lifelong learning skills and personal development so as to be able to work with self-direction and originality and to contribute to business and society at large

Programme Structure

This MBA Top Up programme comprises 80 credits in total at level HE7, with 20 credits of taught modules followed by a 60 credit project module. In addition to the compulsory professional project, students will take one of two taught modules: either MBA7058 Leadership and Management or MBA7061 Strategy. The choice will be facilitated by the programme lead; the intention is to ensure that the MBA Top Up learning journey is appropriately tailored to building on prior professional experience and existing HE7 qualifications.
