General Entry Requirements

You are normally expected to have successfully completed an honours degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject and have appropriate work experience. You may be required to attend an interview and/or provide a portfolio of work.

Additional Criteria

• The standard entry requirement for the course is BSc (Hons) in a Computing-related area, usually with a first or upper second class classification. For applicants without a first or upper second, then a lower second degree will be considered on a case by case basis (particularly for candidates with good relevant industrial experience).

• If English is not your first language you will need to complete a Secure English Language Test at IELTS 6.0 or equivalent with no band less than 5.5.

Aims of the Programme

The principal aims of the programme are to:

• enable students with a background in computing to develop a deeper understanding of data analytics techniques and technologies

• deepen understanding of approaches such as data analysis, visualisation and data mining and their applicability to particular problems

• stimulate creative thinking and enhance problem solving and decision making techniques

• enhance essential skills such as group working, report writing and research skills

• equip students with the knowledge necessary to understand the ethical and environmental issues they will encounter in industry in general

• develop sophisticated intellectual capabilities of research, critique, synthesis and innovation culminating in a masters-level dissertation / project
