General Entry Requirements
You are normally expected to have successfully completed an honours degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject and have appropriate work experience. You may be required to attend an interview and/or provide a portfolio of work.
Additional Criteria
The standard entry requirement for the course is BSc (Hons) in a Computing-related area, usually with a first or upper second class classification. For applicants without a first or upper second, then a lower second degree will be considered on a case by case basis (particularly for candidates with good relevant industrial experience).
If English is not your first language you will need to complete a Secure English Language Test at IELTS 6.0 or equivalent with no band less than 5.5.
Aims of the Programme
The principal aims of the programme are to:
enable students with a background in computing to develop a deeper understanding of data analytics techniques and technologies
deepen understanding of approaches such as data analysis, visualisation and data mining and their applicability to particular problems
stimulate creative thinking and enhance problem solving and decision making techniques
enhance essential skills such as group working, report writing and research skills
equip students with the knowledge necessary to understand the ethical and environmental issues they will encounter in industry in general
develop sophisticated intellectual capabilities of research, critique, synthesis and innovation culminating in a masters-level dissertation / project
